Sales are still running, 20% off with this code: Winter24 !Almufaraka: Master of Disorder (2024) - mini-reviewFrench band Almufaraka are out with the album "Master of Disorder", and this is a production that can safely be filed somewhere in the avantgarde section of the experimental field. This is very much a niche affair, revolving around the use and combination of percussion and voices. Not so much regular singing as far as the voices are concerned, but rather talking and whispering in normal and distorted manners, alongside a great variety of vocal effects and sound effects produced by the vocal chords. Ranging from pleasant sounds to distorted and at times demented vocal effects. The percussion is a just about ever present feature, with careful modes of delivery as well as more powerful and dramatic displays. And as the album title indicates, there is a bit of a chaotic element to these proceedings. Thank you !CD and downloads available on circum-disc.com and circum-disc.bandcamp.com, and sales are going on, 20% off with this code : Winter24 !Brulez Les Meubles: Folio #5 (2024) - mini-reviewCanadian band Brulez Les Meubles are out with the album "Folio #5", and jazz is the style explored on this production. It is an instrumental album this one, and the main association I get is that these are excursions that at least in part are based on improvisations. That being said, this isn't what one might describe as a challenging creation in the understanding that this is difficult music to listen to or to comprehend. Minimalist arrangements with flowing and ethereal qualities are defining aspects of the landscapes explored here, with plenty of space and room given to the individual instrumentalists to showcase a more subtle and careful handling of their respective instruments. While we do get occasional sharp and theatrical displays with more of a dissonant and harder to grasp chaotic state, it is much more common for these aspects of the band's repertoire to be explored in a more subtle and understated manner here. Where mood and melody are given a higher focus than instrumental prowess and highlighting expressive attitudes.
